Surgery
Surgical treatment of aneurysms has improved due to numerous advances in equipment and intraoperative monitoring techniques. Several safety measures are now done routinely in order to minimize risk to the brain during procedures to treat aneurysms. Intraoperative mild hypothermia is routinely used for added brain protection. With the assistance of neurologists, electrical activity in the brain is monitored during the entire procedure. The specialized aneurysm team at Stanford University Medical Center works together on hundreds of cases each year to provide the best care possible using the most advanced equipment available.

Coil embolization 
Non-surgical, endovascular treatment of aneurysms is also offered at Stanford University Medical Center.

This involves threading a catheter into an artery and placing coils into the dome of the aneurysm to close off flow of blood and prevent future bleeding.
