Support Groups at Stanford

Rae Ann Berry, LCSW, Lisa Wolcott, LCSW, Evonne David, LCSW, with the Stanford Liver Transplant Program, facilitate group support meetings twice weekly at Stanford University Medical Center.

Prospective transplant patients, recipients and families meet:

  • Thursday (except holidays) 1:30 - 3:00pm in Dietary Room 1, basement floor of Packard Children's Hospital, inside the main Children's Hospital cafeteria.

  • Patient Education Seminars are presented every few months, usually on Saturday morning from 10:30am - 12: 00 noon, in the Packard Auditorium. Written invitations are sent out.

  • Diabetes and Transplant Program: Under the umbrella of Diabetes and Transplant, we offer:
    • A Diabetes Update Class each month—this one time class is for people with Diabetes pre-or post-transplant. Family members and friends are encouraged to attend.

There is no charge, the class is about 75 minutes in length.
Anna Simos, MPH, CDE; Helen Shen, PharmD; and Patsy Obayashi, RD, CDE will teach about the interrelationship of Diabetes/blood glucose management and transplantation—how optimal glucose control can help you to prepare for transplant and maintain optimal results post-transplant.
Call (650) 498-4526 for dates and class reservation.

    • Open Group Discussion Sessions are available weekly on a walk-in basis, to provide a place for people to problem-solve their Diabetes related issues. We may review diet or blood glucose records, determine how your activities and exercise or transplant medications are affecting your blood glucose control. We work closely with the transplant hepatologists, coordinators, and endocrinologist.
Open group discussion sessions are available on Tuesdays 9:00 - 11:30am in the Surgical Specialties Clinic.
    • Individual appointments are possible on an as-needed basis, call to make an appointment at (650) 498-4526.
    • For information on the Diabetes and Transplant Program, go to Diabetes-organs-education.org
      • Tuesday (at 9:45am) and Wednesday (at 10:45am) in the Transplant Clinic Conference Room
      • Coach: Patsy Obayashi, Registered Dietitian (650) 723-5094
