Esophageal Manometry
One day before procedure
Certain medications affect the function of the esophagus and may need to be discontinued before the procedure. Please stop the following medications 1 day before the procedure. Please check with your physicians to make sure it is safe to go without these medicatios 1 day prior to the procedure.

Nitrates:
|
Nitroglycerin, Nitropaste or patches, Isordil
|
|
Calcium Channel Blockers:
|
Nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat), Verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, and Diltiazen (Cardizem)
|
|
Anti-cholinergics:
|
Propantheline (Pro-Banthine), Dicyclomine (Bentyl)
|
|
Pro-motility agents:
|
Metoclopromide(Reglan), Bethanechol (Urecholine) and Cisapride (Propulsid)
|
|
Sedatives:
|
Ambien, Ativan, Bendryl, Dalmane, Halcion, Klonopin, Libium, Neurontin, Restoril, Trazodone, Valim, Versed, Xanax
|
Day of procedure
Do not eat 8 hours prior to the procedure. Do not drink any liquid 2 hours prior to the procedure. Arrive at registration one hour before your procedure time.
After the procedure
Patient resumes normal activities after the procedure. No sedation will be given, therefore no arrangements are needed for transportation after the procedure.
If you need to change or cancel this appointment, please notify us at least one week in advance at (650) 725-3374. This will enable us to schedule another patient for that appointment time.
