Drug Information Rotation

Preceptors

Goals

·   Use an organized system for staying current with pertinent literature

·   Solve practice problems efficiently

·   Identify a core library, including electronic media, appropriate for a specific practice setting

·   Provide concise, applicable, comprehensive, and timely responses to requests for drug information from patients, health care providers, and the public

·   Prepare and disseminate written drug information

·   Participate in the health system’s formulary process

 

Required Activities/Projects

·   Provide primary telephone coverage for the Drug Information Center

·   Review cases daily with preceptor

·   Precept students as needed

·   Write and present a drug monograph for Pharmacy & Therapeutics

·   Write and present a drug class review for Pharmacy & Therapeutics

·   Write an article for the Drug Information Service Newsletter

·   Complete daily assignments set by preceptor, including 1 journal club presentation

·   Manage all chief resident responsibilities

 

Optional Activities/Projects

·   Complete a drug data sheet for an investigational drug study (Preceptor: Marty Hamilton)

·   Revise or create a resource/reference list for the Department of Pharmacy

·   Revise or create a therapeutic guideline for SHC

·   Perform a drug use evaluation

·   Write additional newsletter articles

 

Time and Performance Expectations

Resident hours in the Drug Information Center are 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, excluding hospital-wide holidays. Absences for vacation, business travel, and other activities must be cleared in advance and outlined in the resident’s schedule, which should be posted within the first week of the rotation. The resident will receive written evaluations at the midpoint and conclusion of the rotation.
