Volunteer Positions

Volunteer Resources has a variety of positions in the hospital and clinics, including:

 

Become a Volunteer

Time commitment

  • The minimum commitment is 3 - 4 hours per week for 6 months, on a regularly scheduled basis. Some volunteer programs require a 1 year time commitment e.g. the Emergency Department.
  • Some programs require a six (6) month commitment and some a one year commitment. 
  • Unfortunately, we do not have any short term volunteer opportunities.

Age requirements

  • Stanford Hospital & Clinics requires that volunteers be age 19 or older.

  • Note: The Hospital Auxiliary program has a junior program for teenagers between the ages of 14 - 18 years old. Call the Auxiliary office at (650) 723-6636 for information. Please do not submit an application until asked to do so.

Compensation

  • Volunteer positions are not paid

  • Volunteers do not carry employee status (your participation will not result in any status as an employee of Stanford Hospital and Clinics nor will you be entitled to any form of remuneration for your services).

  • Contact the Volunteer Services Department at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at (650) 497-8696.

  1. Please review the volunteer applicant (PDF) document.
     
  2. Schedule and attend the Hospital Volunteer Orientation. The orientation will cover the following:

    • Stanford Hosptial & Clincs Mission Statement & Values
    • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
    • JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) Requirements
    • Confidentiality
    • Patient Safety
    • Code of Conduct
    • Environmental Health & Safety
    • Cultural Diversity & Sensitivity
    • Health Clearance Requirements
    • Volunteer privileges & guidelines
    • Respect for Individuals Preventing Harassment in the Workplace
    • HealthStream (online training modules)
  3. Attend Volunteer Interview

  4. Complete Health Clearance (measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox, and TB)

  5. Issue Security Photo ID Badge

Note:  All assignments to volunteer positions can be terminated at any time, by either party, with or without notice and with or without cause.  No volunteer assignment is guaranteed for any specific period of time.
