Billing Statements

New Patient Statements

Good news for our patients. We are proud to announce a redesigned look and easier-to-read format for our hospital and physician billing statements. View a samples of the new statements:

Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital use three different billing statements. As a patient, you may receive one or more of the following:

Hospital Account Statement
A statement for an individual account based on the type of hospital service you received (i.e. inpatient stay, emergency room visit, outpatient surgery, monthly outpatient services).

Hospital Monthly Statement

A consolidated monthly statement summarizing the activity on all your outstanding individual hospital account(s).

Physician Statement

A statement for physician services provided to you at Stanford Hospital &Clinics.

Helpful Information About Your Statement

Important
Depending on the type of care you received, you may have separate hospital accounts with different account numbers.  Some examples of hospital services which may be billed separately are

  • inpatient stays
  • outpatient labs
  • outpatient radiology
  • outpatient surgery
  • emergency room visits
  • ongoing therapies.

You may also receive separate bills from physicians (including radiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists and other specialists) and other providers involved in your care (including Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and Menlo Medical Clinic).

Stanford Hospital & Clinics (View Lucile Packard Children's Hospital information) will bill your primary insurance. If applicable, we will bill your secondary insurance carrier as a courtesy. It is important to remember that health insurance coverage varies and some services may not be covered. Co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles and non-covered services will be your responsibility according to your health insurance coverage.

Billing Terms

  • Account(s) Now Due as of Statement Date: All of the accounts for which you may become responsible may not appear on this statement as we continue to seek payment from your insurance company.
  • New Charges: Charges that have been posted to your account since your last statement.
  • Charge Adjustments: Charges that have been deleted from your account since your last statement.
  • Other Adjustments: Miscellaneous debits and credits to your account.

Reference Laboratories

This information is given to you in compliance with California Business and Professions Code Section 655.5. Certain laboratory tests provided to you were performed by reference laboratory indicated. Any charges for referred lab tests are already included in the total charges on your account. You will not be billed separately for these referred lab tests by the reference laboratory.
