Stanford University Medical Center Auxiliary
Stanford University Medical Center Auxiliary supports and complements patient care and community service at Stanford University Medical Center by assisting patients, relatives and visitors in a responsible manner with compassion, devotion and courtesy.
The Hospital Auxiliary program is a volunteer program focused on comforting and assisting patients and their families while at Stanford Hospital. Men and women of all ages, including juniors 14-18 years old, participate in the program and donate at least 3.5 hours of service each week.
Volunteer Benefits In addition to the satisfaction of service to others, volunteers enjoy participating in the hospitals special events, seminars, luncheons, and friendships.
Auxiliary Services
- AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER: Provide support and assistance to patients and their families. Relay communications to waiting families of patients.
- AUXILIARY CENTER: General office work including typing, filing and telephone.
- EMERGENCY ROOM: Provide support and assistance to staff and families of patients.
- ESCORT: Transport by wheel chair incoming patients to their destination within the hospital as well as patients being dismissed. Deliver charts, lab specimens and flowers throughout the hospital. (Lots of walking!)
- SHOPPING CART: Provide in-patients with a direct purchasing opportunity within the convenience of their rooms.
- INFORMATION DESK: Provide information and directions to patients, family members and visitors to help them find their destination within this large hospital complex. Requires knowledge of the location of clinics and departments.
- INTENSIVE CARE RECEPTION: Staff desks outside intensive care units to assist families and visitors of patients in the respective units.
- PATIENT SERVICES: Assist patients with a variety of personal services such as running errands, circulation reading material, writing letters and caring for flowers.
- SURGERY RECEPTION: Assist physicians in locating waiting family members following surgeries. Relay communications to waiting families of surgical patients.
- JUNIOR VOLUNTEER SERVICES: (Ages 14 to 18) Juniors work Monday through Friday after school. Limited weekend hours are available for some Services.
