Become a Partners in Caring Volunteer Imagine what your life would be like if you could no longer drive, had no relatives near you and had few living friends. A Partners in Caring volunteer, who would come to see you once a week to provide you with friendly visiting, grocery shopping or a drive to your doctor’s appointment would be vital.
Partners in Caring (PIC), winner of the 2004 Stanford University Community Partnership Award, is a joint partnership between Stanford Hospital and Avenidas, a multi-service non-profit agency, established in 1996. Together, our mission is to deliver innovative services to improve the lives of older adults and advocate on their behalf.
PIC volunteers provide:
- Support to homebound adults so that they may remain independent in their own homes
- Transportation to medical appointments, friendly visiting, light meal preparation, light housekeeping, shopping assistance, caregiver relief.
- Commitment of two to four hours of volunteer time weekly, bi-weekly or monthly for at least six months to someone in the Redwood City to Los Altos area.
PIC volunteers receive:
- Training
- A lasting friendship
