NBC11 News Features Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic

Bob Redell, NBC11 reporter, is working with the Stanford Sleep Disorders Center to show the effects of sleep deprivation. Bob plans to go without sleep for three days and is keeping a BLOG to record his reactions. (See below for URL and promo clip). “Sleep is as important as nutrition and exercise,” said Dr. Rafael Pelayo during last night’s taped interview.

The full story is scheduled to air this Friday on NBC11 News at 11:00pm. In addition, Bob is doing live broadcasts at 5:45am, 6:45am, and 11:00am today and Thursday. His story is likely to appear on the 6:00pm news as well.

At the end of last week, Bob took a battery of tests to establish a baseline for various cognitive functions. On Tuesday morning he was "wired up" to monitor his brain waves through Thursday afternoon. The clinic technicians will be able to see when Bob drifts off to sleep—even starts dreaming—though his eyes may be open.
