The Adult Critical Care series presented by renowned physicians and nurses from Stanford University Medical Center provides a unique opportunity for nurses to receive a broad range of advanced critical care theory and the most up-to-date patient care practices.

 

Cardiothoracic Surgical Interventions is the 1st course in this 6 course series.

 

 

Topics to be covered include:

  • Surgical interventions used in the treatment of cardiothoracic disease
  • New procedures that are found in the larger medical centers such as:
    • the maze procedure for atrial fibrillation,
    • valvular reconstruction and
    • emergency treatment of aortic dissection as well as an overview of the basics
  • Physiological effects of cardiopulmonary bypass and the risks and complications of some of the common surgical interventions
