While diabetes is a common secondary diagnosis among hospitalized patients, it is rarely the focus of care.

Hyperglycemia is an independent risk factor for poor patient outcomes.

This course is designed for acute care nurses and focuses on how nursing can improve inpatient glycemic control.

Program Highlights:

  • Basic pathophysiology
  • Different types of diabetes
  • Research on the link between hyperglycemia and poor outcomes
  • New recommendations for improving inpatient diabetes care

Discussions and case studies will include new strategies for intensive insulin therapy throughout the inpatient arena.

Faculty from Stanford Hospital and Clinics:

Gail Rutherford, RN, CNS, Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist
