The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course has been updated to include biotherapy and pediatrics. Participants must be licensed RNs with six months of experience. All content will be based on the new ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Guidelines providing a comprehensive overview for nurses new to chemotherapy, and a review for experienced oncology nurses to ensure consistency in practice. Topics include the theoretical basis for chemotherapy administration, principles of biotherapy and immunotherapy, specific chemotherapy drug classifications, safe handling, safe administration, side effect management and patient teaching. Case studies will be presented. Upon completion of the course and post-test, participants will receive a laminated ONS Cancer Chemotherapy Card. This card validates successful completion of the ONS chemotherapy course and theoretical foundation needed to administer chemotherapy. This is not a certification course, individual institutions are responsible for determining their own requirements based on internal policies for assessing clinical competency in chemotherapy administration.
