This course is designed for nurses interested in obtaining a better understanding of how to use laboratory data to plan nursing care.
The laboratory tests chosen for discussion will include basic hematology and coagulation tests, electrolytes, renal function tests, ABGs, enzymes, lipids and bilirubin levels.
Case studies will be used to demonstrate how to interpret abnormal results and formulate nursing diagnoses.
Participants are asked to bring examples of lab slips from their agency.
Program Highlights:
-
How age, sex, pregnancy, drugs and other variables change reference values
-
The effects of common pathological conditions on selected laboratory tests
-
Possible nursing diagnoses from given case studies with abnormal lab values
-
Recent developments in laboratory testing
